VII World Bamboo Congress held on 27.2.2004 to 4.3.2004 at New Delhi

The Director of the institute attended the above VII World Bamboo Congress held at New Delhi from 27th February, 2004 to 4th March, 2004 and presented a technical paper entitled Role of Bamboo in Development of Indian Pulp and Paper Industry.

Participation in Techfest "Cognizance 2004" at IIT, Roorkee

Two Scientists of the Institute participated and presented two papers in Techfest "Cognizance 2004" held at Department of Paper Technology, IIT, Roorkee, (Saharanpur Campus) on March 2004. Sh. Sanjay Tyagi, Scientist B, has secured the third position in the event.

¤ Dr .S.Panwar attended Indo -EU Workshop on Promoting Efficient Water Use in Agro Based Industries New Delhi,15th-16th January 2004.

¤ Dr.M.K.Gupta & Dr.N.Anwar Siddiqui visited IARPMA to discuss the results of analysis of samples collected from various mills under LCA project.

¤ Dr .Nitin Endlay attended a function organized by Embassy of Sweden,New Delhi on 23rd January 2004 to mark the fifty years of Indo-Swedish Development Cooperation

¤ The Ist meeting of Technical Committee constituted for "Development of Specific Energy Consumption Norms" under the BEE/ GTZ Project was held on 15th Jan, 2004 at India International Center, New Delhi. Representatives of pulp and paper industry, industry associations, Government Nominees and other consultants participated in the meeting.

During the meeting various issues related to scope of work and execution of the activities under the project were discussed. Dr. A. G. Kulkarni, Director, CPPRI delivered opening remarks and informed the members about the activities of CPPRI in Energy Management and also highlighted the reasons for higher energy consumption by Indian Paper Mills, the specific energy consumption norms to be laid after the study would be helpful for the pulp and paper industry to assess and monitor their present level of energy consumption and take necessary steps to reduce excess energy consumption.

Sh. V. S. Verma, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Govt. of India stressed the need for developing rational energy consumption norms based on scientific evaluation of various processes and technologies employed.

Dr. Kaupp, GTZ - GmbH appreciated the questionnaire prepared by CPPRI and also informed that the difference in highly efficient and inefficient mills in India is too large, hence there is need for setting up the norms.
