Significant Achievements

¤ Upgradation of papermaking raw materials.

¤ Storage of bagasse.

¤ Urea pulping of agricultural residues.

¤ APMP (Alkaline Peroxide Mechanical Pulping) of Non-wood raw material.

¤ Oxygen bleaching followed by conventional CEH bleaching of pulp in order to reduce effluent load.

¤ Refining of Non wood fibre pulps for pulp quality upgradation.

¤ Utilization of whole jute for paper/newsprint.

R & D Programmes / Technical Services
CPPRI can take up testing of fibrous and nonfibrous raw materials for composition and characterization. The testing range includes complete proximate chemical analysis of fibrous raw material eg. Ash, Extractives, holocollulose & alpha, beta cellulose fractions in raw materials and pulps. The tests of fiber morphology include fiber length and distribution, fiber width and distribution, fiber coarseness, fines content, fiber curl and fiber kink with the help of fiber Quality Analyzer. The laboratory is also equipped to take up analysis of fortified rosin. The testing of food grade papers as per BIS norms are also carried out.

Pulping & Bleaching
Fibrous raw materials are evaluated for their suitability as paper making sources. The fibrous raw materials include agriculture residues and wood based sources, which will be evaluated for pulping chemical requirement, Quality of pulps, time and energy requirements etc. Complete optimization of bleaching process using a range of bleaching chemicals like chlorine, chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, oxygen following conventional, ECF and TCF processes can be taken up for evaluation.
