» Evaluation of Techno - Economic viability to reduce the level of AOX to 1.0 Kg per tonne of product in large scale Pulp & Paper mills.

AOX Analyser
AOX Analyser

Objective
To evaluate the options particularly alkali leaching (post digester), enzymatic prebleaching to reduce the demand of chlorine in order to achieve AOX level of about 1.0 kg/t of product. The studies also include the evaluation of techno-economic viability of new technologies like extended oxygen delignification, chlorine dioxide bleaching, enzymatic prebleaching, etc. to achieve AOX around 1.0 kg/t of product.

Activities
Studies conducted with the unbleached pulp samples from mills selected by sponsoring agency revealed that the combination of post digester leaching (for pulps having kappa no.>25) and enzymatic pretreatment of unbleached pulp resulted in reduced chlorine requirement by 15-20%. However, this combination of leaching and enzymatic prebleaching process is not sufficient to reduce the level of AOX to around 1.0 kg/t of paper. The final report covering the techno-economic viability of options to reduce AOX level to about 1.0 kg/t of product has been submitted to sponsoring agency.
