Pulp & Paper Industry is
considered to be the 5th largest consumer of the energy after
aluminium, fertilizer, iron, steel and cement industry. The energy
consumption in Indian Pulp & Paper industry varies from 23-37 GJ per
tonne of paper in comparison to the mills in developed countries, where the
specific energy consumption is 18-22 GJ/T.
Reviewing the scope of
energy consumption, Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs, Govt. of
India, has come out with the Energy Conservation Act dated 29th
Sept. 2001 to provide for efficient use of energy & its conservation.
The energy bill highlights the importance of energy audit and process
optimization to reduce the energy cost component, which amounts upto 30% in
Indian Pulp & Paper Industry. CPPRI has been actively engaged since 1989
to promote energy conservation and management practices in pulp and paper
industry and has trained manpower & state-of-art facilities to conduct
energy and process audits. The following projects are aimed at energy
