The project has been successfully
completed in March’2002. Commendable efforts have resulted in
development of suitable industrial by- products from lignin. Based on the
expertise developed in the area of plain particle boards, trouble shooting
services were rendered to one of the leading particle boards manufacturing
unit in Ballarshah, Maharashtra to improve the workability of the plain
particle boards.
25-40% phenol substitution with black liquor
lignin has resulted in lignin substituted phenol- formaldehyde type of resin
formulation . The ply boards made using these resins conform to the various
BIS standards, required for marketing of these boards.
Based on the
observations, an Executive Summary was submitted to MOI- DoIPP covering
infrastructure created, expertise achieved, Interaction with industry,
various utilization aspects of lignin, outputs delivered, reports &
publications made, patent filed along with the recommendations of the
project.
