CHEMICAL RECOVERY

Chemical recovery division is dedicated to develop new technologies for ecofriendly treatment of black liquor, to facilitate paper industry for pollution control, to emphasize thermal energy recovery efficiency etc.

  • Undertake R&D work in the area of chemical recovery, desilication, thermal treatment of black liquor for combustion behavior improvement and black liquor characterization.
  • Development of alternate technologies in the area of chemical recovery for cost-effective production viable in Indian context 
  • Co-operate with the mills in process development and extend the testing facilities in India and Abroad. 
  • Capacity assessment and prefeasibility studies on chemical recovery system.
  • Provide training to mill personnel at all levels, demonstration of technology, organizing workshops, seminars & interaction meets to disseminate information.
  • Provide technical services to Pulp & Paper and allied industries for chemical characterization of various samples from recovery cycle.
  • Recovery of lignin and carbohydrates from spent pulping liquor and their utilization as a source of clean energy.
  • Studies for thermal analysis and combustion behaviour of black liquor and fuel samples.
  • Estimation of non-process elements in black liquor and process water samples. 
  • Macro molecular characterization of black liquor constituents.
  • Elemental characterization of black liquor samples.
  • Conducting training & project work for academic and industry personnel.
  • Modification and utilization of separated lignin for industrial useful products like lignosulphonate as additive in concrete admixture, plywood Industry, rubber industry etc.

  • Developed Direct Alkali Recovery System (DARS), a process for recovery of chemical suitable for small pulp & paper mills
  • Developed a technology for reduction of Chlorides & Potassium in Chemical Recovery System. The technology is being upscaled for demonstration on Pilot scale
  • Established test procedure for determination of lignosulphonate purity
  • Identified and developed lignin purification technique to improve its performance as feedstock for clean energy and other industrial applications
