Attempts to develop biotechnology
for the pulp and paper industry were started in the early 70s
coinciding with the cradle period for biotechnology. Modern biotechnology
attempts to achieve the same goals new or better products but
more efficiently. The incentives to develop the new biotechnological
alternatives in pulp and paper industry are :

Consumer pressure for more environmentally-friendly products.

The cost of cleaning up waste.
¤
Opportunities for products with improved properties.
More and more
biotechnology finds its way from university laboratories to the industrial
world. Among other things, industrial biotechnology examines how to save
money on raw materials, how to make the production process more efficient,
how to reduce waste and emissions or how to make new sustainable products
from renewable substances (bio-mass). At any stage of the production process
input, production process, final product biotechnology
provides the means, techniques and know-how for sustainable industry. With
the aim of providing wider application of biotechnology to Pulp & Paper
Industry. The following project was undertaken :
