RAC Projects of the Institute (Biotechnology)

The Institute has set up Infrastructure facilities in the area of Biotechnology, so that the biotechnological applications which are advantageous and feasible could be adopted in the Indian Paper Industry. Having created the necessary infrastructure facilities in this project in terms of both equipment and expert manpower required in biotechnological applications, the Institute has been identified as a nodal center to take up biotechnology related activities & projects by R & D Institutions, Pulp & Paper Industry Associations, Government organizations, Enzyme manufacturers and reputed laboratories working in the area of Biotechnology.

Efficient enzymes / microbes can now be produced to effectively use them in a cost effective way for pulping and bleaching of pulps, deinking of recycled papers. CPPRI has done extensive work in priority areas of biotechnology in pulp and paper processes like enzymatic prebleaching of pulps, fungal degradation of raw materials. Slime control on paper machine, which resulted into advantageous and feasible processes. Processes like bio-bleaching are in the way of commercialization in one/ more of the Indian mills.
